Hello. How are you today?
Difficult question. For a German, a “How are you?” is not a common greeting phrase, it’s a specific medical question. So, don’t get me started…
At this stage, how closely does your programme blurb match the content of your show?
Absolutely! “Sexy Science. Serious Humour – Made in Germany” is about the desirability of physics: Why is the sky blue? Why is the night black? Why shouldn’t we eat yellow snow? And besides, I’m gonna break the myth that German physicists have no sense of humour. First time I entered the lab of my German university I saw a sign: “Don´t look directly into the laser beam with your remaining eye.”
Who are you sharing a flat with and how will you help each other survive the month?
I’ve rented a beautiful little apartment all by myself near The Meadows. But ladies, don’t get any ideas. I’m not that kind of a guy…
Any shows you’re excited about seeing?
Since I usually only play in German-speaking countries, I unfortunately have no idea what is particularly worthwhile. But I’ve heard that Prince Philip is an excellent comedian. What venue can I see him at?
Other than the great shows, what else are you looking forward to about your trip to Edinburgh this year?
I’d definitely like to take a look inside the Holyrood Palace as well as a glimpse under a kilt.
The Fringe’s tagline this year is ‘Into The Unknown’. What do people not know about you?
When I was 10 years old, I took my canary in its cage outside during a thunderstorm just to check if Faraday was right. And he was. The bird wasn’t struck by lightning. It died of a heart attack.
I’m bored of all the podcasts I currently subscribe to. Can you recommend me a good one please?
I have no idea what you are talking about. In Germany we still only use the “Volksempfänger”.
Here’s a space to write about anything you want. Go for it.
Nobel prize winner Richard Feynman once said: “Science is a long story about learning not to fool ourselves.” The biggest gift of science is teaching us how to free our minds. So, Be curious. Stay skeptical! Ask questions! Step into the unknown!
