Ross Smith: Edinburgh Fringe 2018 interview

Hello. How are you today?

Hello! I’m well thank-you. How are you? I’ve had a lovely day in the sunshine basking in England football teams newest success. Its coming home (EDIT: anyone reading this in the future- it was still coming home at this point)

At this stage, how closely does your programme blurb match the content of your show?

Surprisingly close actually! Although it’s a lot less words. The content is all around one experience that happened to me this year. What experience i hear you ask? Come find out!

Who are you sharing a flat with and how will you help each other survive the month?

I’m sharing a flat with two really good mates. Pete Nash an alternative comedy genius with the name of an astronaut, and Eddy Hare one half of my favourite sketch group- Crizards. I fully expect to not survive the month but I think they’ll help me by not complaining about how much food I steal from them.

Any shows you’re excited about seeing?

Loads. I’ll be watching Daniel Kitson’s midnight show. Ian smith’s craft was amazing when i saw a preview. Heidi Regan, Micky Overman, Richard Todd. there’s too much to choose from but i think this year will be amazing with the talent that is on show!

Other than the great shows, what else are you looking forward to about your trip to Edinburgh this year?

I’m looking forward to the freshers week atmosphere of the first week, the inevitable flu of the second week, and the crushing despondency on the final two weeks. In all seriousness it’s amazing to spend so much time with friends and (can i use the word colleagues?)………. contemporaries.

The Fringe’s tagline this year is ‘Into The Unknown’. What do people not know about you?

It’s not common knowledge that I’m a twin. Non identical (which is the point that people normally lose interest) he’s very successful and drives an Audi. Annoyingly he is just as funny as me but he’s normal. Also I have never, ever been beaten at a game of catchphrase that I’ve watched on the TV. seriously, I’m incredible

I’m bored of all the podcasts I currently subscribe to. Can you recommend me a good one please?

I love podcasts! Athletico mince, Bob mortimers podcast is my favourite. I also love Joel Dommett and Steve Dunne’s The Comedy score. I can also recommend you a podcast i have done with Richard todd that will be coming out in september- it’s called Rental Breakdown and its very funny.

Here’s a space to write about anything you want. Go for it.

RIGHT! I’ve been waiting for a platform like this to really talk about something i’m passionate about. So here it goes. Ok. ermmmmm ok. So you know when………I’ve forgotten what i was going to say. Wait a minute itll come back………so, yeah……… no its gone. Sorry about that. I haven’t said anything. Maybe i’ve said something about memory. Yeah that will do.
