Nick Hall: Edinburgh Fringe 2018 interview

Hello. How are you today?

Very well thank you. Completely relaxed. Not in anyway frantically re-writing bits of my Edinburgh show.

At this stage, how closely does your programme blurb match the content of your show?

It’s pretty accurate. My show’s about the only British Prime Minister ever to be assassinated, so my only quandary was whether to mention that in the blurb or have it be a surprise for the audience. I went for the former – murder is a great selling point!

Who are you sharing a flat with and how will you help each other survive the month?

I’m staying with comedian Dan Cook. He’s on one of the laziest people I know, which will help enormously in creating a relaxing and stress-free Edinburgh experience. As long as we both remember to buy milk.

Any shows you’re excited about seeing?

Obviously Dan Cook’s – he’s going to have an absolute barn-stormer of a show. I’ve not actually seen his show yet but he’s a funny man and if more people go to see his show, the vibe in our flat will be much better. As long as we have milk.

Other than the great shows, what else are you looking forward to about your trip to Edinburgh this year?

Going swimming in the Commonwealth swimming pool. I can thoroughly recommend going swimming during your time at the Fringe. The aerobic exercise is great for your body, plus you can imagine that the pool water is that scowling audience member from yesterday, and punch them right in the face (although you will get funny looks from the lifeguard).

The Fringe’s tagline this year is ‘Into The Unknown’. What do people not know about you?

I once had a job interview for MI6. I studied Russian politics at university so out of the blue I got invited to apply as a spy. Unfortunately I told everyone I knew about the interview, thereby proving I wouldn’t be a very good spy and so I got rejected. Or did I? Maybe being a comedian is just a cover story? P.S it’s really not.
