Charlie Baker: Edinburgh Fringe 2017 interview

Part comedy, part cabaret, Charlie’s show this year is a nostalgic love letter to pop music of the 80s, 90s and 00s.

At this stage, how closely does your programme blurb match the content of your show?

Very much although it’s become a lot more stand up heavy than I 1st thought as I just enjoyed writing it so much

Have the momentous events of 2016 affected your comedy in any way?

I have a few topical jokes and I finally tell the world how much I loved George Micheal

Who are you sharing a flat with this festival and how will you help each other survive the month?

I take my family to Edinburgh with me (wife, two kids) and we have various visitors to help with childcare. They all help me survive by being there and putting up with my mood swings/ego for a month.

Any shows you’re particularly excited about seeing?

Tom Lucy’s debut hour. He’s a big talent. Fin Taylor is exciting. Pat Cahill is special. Rosie Jones has funny bones. Angela Barnes is one of the best joke writers out there.

Other than the great shows, what else are you looking forward to about your trip to Edinburgh this year?

I just love the city in August. It’s a privilege to be there.

What celebrity death hit you the hardest in 2016 (mine was Wogan)?

George Micheal.Love you George.

Here’s a space to write about anything you want.

Go for it. Nah. I can’t sit around idly writing. I’ve a show to write and learn. Come and see it it’s really good.
