Fin Taylor: Edinburgh Fringe 2017 interview

Fin Taylor By Mat Ewins Laugh Out London Edinburgh fringe 2017

Another smash hit of the 2016 Fringe, Fin received acclaim last year from all quarters for a masterful show about white, male privilege. He’s sticking with politics this year for a show that looks at what it actually means to call yourself left or right wing.

Hello. How are you today?

I am very tired but my general disposition is fine.

At this stage, how closely does your programme blurb match the content of your show?

I don’t like writing a vague blurb so I’ve pinned my colours to the mast, and at the moment it fits the show like a glove. But if the election comes out in a Corbyn win it’s fair to say I will have a fuck of a lot of re-writes [Fin completed this Q&A before the election. Woops. – Ed]. And for god’s sake the amount of terrorism that keeps happening is a real pain for someone who’s got about 10 minutes on it but can’t practice it at previews due to everyone being all tense. I mean i’m the real victim here.

Have the momentous events of 2016 affected your act in any way?

I finally seem to be vaguely relevant.

Who are you sharing a flat with this festival and how will you help each other survive the month?

Ivo Graham, Jack Barry and Patrick Turpin. I have lived with all of them before in various combinations during the last few festivals, and I’m very excited about the combination of thigh-slapping alpha-male banter and fey conversations about art.

Any shows you’re particularly excited about seeing?

All my usual favourites will be up in some form or another. Far too many to name but Mat Ewins and Phil Wang will have belting hours by August.

Other than the great shows, what else are you looking forward to about your trip to Edinburgh this year?

It’s my first single Edinburgh for four years! EY-OOOOOOOO!

What celebrity death hit you the hardest in 2016 (mine was Wogan)?

Nancy Reagan

Here’s a space to write about anything you want. Go for it.

Nancy Davis Reagan was an American film actress, and the wife of the 40th President of the United States, Ronald Reagan. She served as the First Lady of the United States from 1981 to 1989. She was born in New York City.
