Max and Ivan: Edinburgh Fringe 2017 interview

Max and Ivan edinburgh fringe 2017

Sketch favourites Max and Ivan are back at the Fringe with another run of the 2013 Best Show nominated The Reunion. They’re also looking forward to some more wrestling action on August 15.

Hello. How are you today?

Oh fuck off.

At this stage, how closely does your programme blurb match the content of your show?

Given that we’re doing a two-week run of a show we’ve previously taken to Edinburgh (Max & Ivan: The Reunion – nominated for Best Show back in 2013, baybeh!) the blurb is literally bang on, which is a first. ALSO – we adapted The Reunion into some Channel 4 Blaps and you genuinely must watch them HERE.

Have the momentous events of 2016 affected your act in any way?

Yes.

Who are you sharing a flat with this festival and how will you help each other survive the month?

We’re in a very strong flat, over in New Town. It’s a classic combination of us, our techie Pegs, his dad Nigel, and a series of professional wrestlers who will descend mid-month when The Wrestling returns – for one night only – on August 15th.

Any shows you’re particularly excited about seeing?

Gadd. Morpurgo. Pascoe. O’Doherty. They’re a four-piece Morris Dancing troupe.

Other than the great shows, what else are you looking forward to about your trip to Edinburgh this year?

The last three years I’ve signed up for the Edinburgh University gym, and every single time a different middle-aged man has covertly showed me his scrotum in the sauna. So, if that happens again, not that.

What celebrity death hit you the hardest in 2016 (mine was Wogan)?

Matthew McConaughey in ten years’ time L.

Here’s a space to write about anything you want. Go for it.

Have you ever noticed that the EdFringe website doesn’t automatically take you to the bit where you search for shows?! Isn’t that weird! Also, we are all just sentient apes, gradually rotting on a small pebble floating through the infinite abyss of an entropic, uncaring universe. ALSO also, the second series of our Radio 4 sitcom The Casebook of Max & Ivan is out later this year – do tune in!
