Head of cult comedy collective Weirdos, Adam Larter is one of the hardest working and form pushing performers on the alternative comedy circuit.
He’ll have more creative ideas in one day than most comedians will have in a career. A man who takes the ridiculous very seriously, which is what we like.
Hello. How are you today?
I’m pretty good. I’m recovering from a tiring weekend where I slept in a tent in a thunderstorm but I’m feeling pretty good. How are you today?
At this stage, how closely does your programme blurb match the content of your show?
It’s pretty accurate because I kept it quite vague. I describe my show as an art show and that it is.
Have the momentous events of 2016 affected your comedy in any way?
No. Well . . . there’s a bit about Prince. . . but it’s not really about Prince.
Who are you sharing a flat with this festival and how will you help each other survive the month?
I’m sharing with the Weirdos comedy clan. I’m very excited about living with Gareth Morinan again. He used to live in our house and then moved out because he wanted to live somewhere “nice”, August will be a reunion.
Any shows you’re particularly excited about seeing?
I’ve seen quite a few previews and that all looks great. I’ll go through the theatre section and try and find all the weird stuff – that’s what i’m looking forward to.
Other than the great shows, what else are you looking forward to about your trip to Edinburgh this year?
I really liked going to the botanical gardens last year. I’ll go there again. Also I’m trying to keep healthy this year so I’ll be running around a bit. Look out for me.
What celebrity death hit you the hardest in 2016 (mine was Wogan)?
A lot of people text me when Bowie died. I was a massive Bowie fan for a long time . . . we even did a show about it. It wasn’t a great show but it was fun. . . Don’t think any of them hit me hard, though I did start thinking about how sad I would be if Morrissey died.
Here’s a space to write about anything you want. Go for it.
