Tom Toal: Edinburgh Fringe 2015 interview

Hello. How are you today?

I am well, calm before the storm and all, had a shower, feeling good mate.

At this stage, how closely does your programme blurb match the content of your show?

Relatively close, although I took out a whole section on battle rap that I had in the press release.

What are your tips for getting people to see your show?

Don’t be afraid to look them in the eyes and use hyperbole like “This show will change your life!” by the time they have realised your manipulation it’s too late

Is there anyone in particular you’d like to see in your audience?

I would particularly like to see 51 people in every night.

Who are you sharing a flat with this festival and how will you help each other survive the month?

Geins Family Gift Shop – James Meehan, Kiri Pritchard Mclean, Kath Hughes, Ed Easton, Michael J Dolan, Will Duggan oh and my fiancé Anna Cooke and my baby Elsa Tilly.

I think loads of curry is in order, and plenty of slaps on the back

Other than the great shows, what else are you looking forward to about your trip to Edinburgh this year?

I drove up for first time last year so doing that again. You see just how beautiful and picturesque the Scottish countryside is…. Oh and eating a burger at City Café.

What’s your topping at The Baked Potato Shop on Cockburn Street?

I don’t like baked potato you can have mine, or give it to a homeless.

Here’s a space to write about anything you want. Go for it.

Could I copy and paste a list of reviews for me? Only good ones though.
Okay I’ll give a little speech for something my dad once told me:

“The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place, and I don’t care how tough you are, it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward; how much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done! Now, if you know what you’re worth, then go out and get what you’re worth. But you gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody. Cowards do that and that ain’t you. You’re better than that!”
